The shock deepened as details emerged, revealing a blatant disregard for legal protections that should have shielded Lopez Belloza. Astonishingly, a federal judge had already issued a clear order barring the US government from removing her from US territory or even transferring her outside of Massachusetts. Yet, in the span of just 48 hours, she was whisked away, first to Texas, then across international borders to Honduras, completely undermining the court’s decree. Her attorney, Todd Pomerleau, was furious, asserting that Lopez Belloza was never shown a warrant, a formal removal order, or given any coherent explanation for her detention and subsequent deportation. “I still am not convinced that she ever had an order removal. … She wasn’t shown any proof,” Pomerleau vehemently stated. This wasn’t merely a procedural error; it appeared to be a stunning judicial oversight, or worse, a deliberate act of defiance against a standing federal injunction. How could a U.S. citizen’s legal rights be so brazenly trampled upon, turning a legal order into a meaningless piece of paper in the face of federal action?
