Brandon, who had celebrated his 30th birthday just one day before the tragedy, was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served as a Petty Officer. His discipline, dedication, and reliability earned him respect among his peers.

Outside of the military, he had a zest for life. He loved:

  • RC flying

  • boating

  • snowmobiling

  • hunting

  • fishing

  • exploring nature

If Brandon loved something, he loved it wholeheartedly. His obituary highlighted his enormous heart, his generosity, and his commitment to helping others—both in and out of uniform. He leaves behind his parents, his sister, his grandmothers, and numerous family members who saw him as a source of joy and pride.

In the days following the tragedy, the small communities connected to Rachel and Brandon—Crystal Lake, Milwaukee, and their hometown in Wisconsin—were shaken to their core. People who had grown up with them, worked with them, laughed with them, and watched their love story unfold found themselves unable to process the suddenness, the cruelty, and the silence that now surrounded their loss.

Neighbors placed candles on porches. Old classmates wrote messages, recalling how kind, funny, or inspiring the couple had been. Friends held each other and cried, unsure how to comfort one another because the pain felt too deep and too unfamiliar.
